Explore the beautiful art of Pibione tapestry weaving in our workshop. Weaving is an ancient craft that is practiced throughout the world, and Pibione (which translates to “grapes” in Italian) is a unique style that uses small bump-like stitches to create a pattern. Known for its detail and craftsmanship, Pibione is practiced on the small Mediterranean island of Sardinia by a handful of artists keeping the original designs alive.

In this workshop, artist Lindsey Campbell of Hello Hydrangea introduces Pibione tapestry weaving and the uniquely sourced materials that make her wall hangings and art so special. You’ll learn to modernize the ancient practice with extra-chunky materials for a bold, graphic design, all under Lindsey’s expert guidance.

Custom 18-by-24-inch maple loom and sword
One skein of South African merino wool extra bulky yarn in the color of your choice

Welcome to our workshop exploring the beautiful art of Pibione tapestry weaving. Weaving is an ancient craft that has been practiced since the beginning of time and throughout the world, Pibione is a unique style of weaving that literally means ‘grapes’ in Italian and refers to the small bumps within the tapestry that create a pattern. Known for its detail and craftsmanship, Pibione is practiced on the small island of Sardinia in Italy by a handful of artists that are keeping the original designs and looms alive.

In this workshop, artist Lindsey Campbell introduces Pibione and the uniquely sourced materials that make her wall hangings and art so special. Lindsey uses this technique often in her own work, modernizing the ancient practice with extra chunky materials for a bold, graphic design. Although this project requires a bit of time (and a lot of concentration), once you get the hang of it, the technique is repetitive and meditative - by the end you will have a gorgeous piece of artwork to hang in your home! We’ve worked carefully with artisanal craftsmen, wool mills and natural dyers to assemble a kit of tools & materials to get you started.

Lindsey is the artist and instructor behind Hello Hydrangea. She has taught thousands of students how to weave through her own courses and has published a book, Welcome to Weaving, to introduce even more makers to the art. Lindsey has designed collections for Anthropologie, Nordstrom and Joann’s Crafts. She is an advocate for helping busy people use their limited time to be creative.
