CRAFTER KIDS
LEATHER ANIMAL CLUTCH
This workshop is a fun animal craft for kids that takes a plain leather pouch and turns it into a charming leather animal clutch that incorporates the maker's unique personality. The exploration encompasses drawing, painting on leather, and defining lines for a sturdy leather clutch suitable for holding pencils or small treasures. Customization allows for a unique and personalized touch to the final product.
Fun Facts
- Leather is available in different finishes and textures. Your leather has a surface known as “pebbled” since the tiny raised bumps resemble a pebbly beach.
- The Romans used leather sails on their boats 3000 years ago.
- Fawns in the wild naturally camouflage well with their surroundings. The white spots on a fawn help them blend into the dappled sunlight of a forest floor.
- Several drawing “warm-up” exercises help with line control. Many artists draw circles, lines, cubes, cylinders, and other shapes before drawing on their final project.
About the Artist: Liz Wagner
Liz Wagner finds joy in guiding crafters of all ages through the creative process. As a mother of five and kindergarten educator, she delights in the innate and uninhibited creative spirit that young makers bring to the workshop table.
“One of the first crafts I ever explored as a preteen was jewelry making. Walking into a beading store felt like discovering a treasure trove. The beads and findings shone, filled my eyes, and called out to me with inspiration. Learning how to apply those beautiful tools and materials to make custom accessories gave me a sense of accomplishment and individuality.”
Liz lives in sunny San Diego with her family of 7. She is crazy about her four chickens, gardening, and making something from nothing.
