SARAH PEREZ
BRASS MOBILES
Welcome to our metal working workshop collaboration with Sarah Perez of Electric Sun Creatives. Sarah is leading us through a study in balance, composition and design by working with sheet metal and brass tubing to create a sculptural brass mobile for the home. In this workshop we will learn how to manipulate metal using the tools and techniques that Sarah practices in her studio.
Sarah is a Sacramento-based artist that creates mobiles and wall hangings under her brand, Electric Sun Creatives. She experiments with both copper and brass as part of her practice because of their warm, reflective tones as well as the depth and color that add to her work. With training in sculpture and small metals, Sarah uses her background education as groundwork but has made it her own by building custom pieces that are completely unique to her design and aesthetic. Her specialized process includes manipulating wire, cutting out shapes, filing, sanding and stringing those shapes together until they are pleasing to the eye. She is inspired by the shapes and beauty around her, as well as Alexander Calder, the father of the kinetic sculpture. Sarah shares that she is fascinated with balance & composition and can often be found on the studio floor getting lost in the shifting of pieces until she lands on something of beauty and simplicity. She creates her work in the third bedroom-turned studio of the Warehouse Artist Lofts in Sacramento, where she lives with her husband and daughter.
We can’t wait to see how you are inspired to create using this workshop as well as this new technique. Be sure to share with us your process and your projects by using #thecraftersbox and tagging @electricsuncreatives. We’re so excited! Happy making.
