WET FELTED NESTING BASKETS
Discover the joy of wet felting wool. In this workshop, Andrea, the artist and owner behind Sheep Creek Studio, will guide crafters through the wonderfully tactile steps of wet felting luxurious Merino wool with their wet felting supplies. You will experience the magical nature of wool fibers as they interconnect and condense into fabric under your fingertips.
What is Wet Felting?
Wet felting is a centuries-old textile art form that involves matting together wool fibers to create fabric. In this tactile process, wool fibers are laid out in layers, moistened with water and soap, and then agitated by hand or tools. The fibers interlock and fuse through friction and pressure to form a cohesive piece of thick fabric. Wet felting allows endless creative possibilities, from crafting intricate designs to sculpting three-dimensional shapes. With its blend of tradition, creativity, and hands-on technique, wet felting continues to captivate artists and crafters worldwide, offering a unique avenue for self-expression and artistic exploration.
Crafters will utilize a wet felting tutorial to learn how to transform the fabric into beautiful, functional wool baskets that can store small items like jewelry, cosmetics, and sundries, or be used as handmade gift baskets. The workshop will also engage seasoned crafters with its color placement and design flexibility. As you continue to explore more wet felting projects, we encourage you to experiment with different colors and designs in addition to three-dimensional wet felting.
About the Artist: Andrea Burnett
Andrea is the owner and artist behind Sheep Creek Studio, a business she began in 2009 as a part-time artistic outlet in Portland, Oregon. She started her felting journey by needle felting custom nursery mobiles, decor pieces, figurines, and wet felting various objects and rugs. She continued building her business and felting skills alongside becoming a mother, as Andrea and her husband welcomed first their daughter and then their son into their family.
In 2021, their family made a lifestyle, career, and location change and moved from the city to the rolling farmland of Northern Idaho near Andrea’s childhood home. In this new setting, she and her husband decided to combine their skill sets and give Sheep Creek Studio a more central role as a family business.
Andrea continues to create custom needle-felted pieces, but her current focus has shifted more to designing and creating wet-felted fabric for use in craft kits, craft projects, and decor pieces. She especially loves the challenge of creating tutorials and felting kits that are genuinely beginner-friendly and help open up the potentially intimidating world of felting to others.
