BOX MAKING: LIDDED BOX WITH ARTISAN PAPER
Expand your artisan box making skills by exploring a completely different technique with Bari Zaki as an add-on to our main workshop kit this December. Our Box Making: Lidded Box Workshop includes a new workshop video and materials kit to make a new style of box.
Craft your own elegant, lidded box with patterned artisan paper, topped off with a wooden bead handle. Bari Zaki, of Bari Zaki Studio, teaches you how to construct your own 3" x 3" x 3" flat-lidded box using custom bookboards, PVA glue, and artisan papers—a perfect container for small desk accessories, washi tape, keys, jewelry, or to present as a polished gift box.
THE ART OF BOX MAKING
In the workshop, Bari will guide you through every step of the process to create your lidded box, from constructing your box base to finishing with a duo of beads for the lid handle. You’ll also learn how to precisely glue your artisan papers, make clean cuts, and create a secure lid with a perfect fit. Seeing the box and lid come together at the end is truly satisfactory, and what Bari refers to as a “happy moment” during making!
LIDDED BOX MAKING MATERIALS KIT
Bari’s kit has been curated with enough materials to create one beautiful, lidded box with pre-cut papers and a custom bookboard set, so you can get right into making. The bookboard set makes up the base of your box, and the included corner spacer helps to make precise measurements and cuts for your box corners.
More About the Artist: Bari Zaki
Bari Zaki is a lifelong lover of paper. In her childhood bedroom she had a small walk-in closet with bookshelves holding books and her ever-expanding “library” of paper samples, swatches, and scraps that her father brought home from his print shop. In her early 20s, she took a series of bookbinding and box making classes at Artists Bookworks in Chicago. Bari went on to open a small, appointment-only studio and her business focused mainly on custom projects.
After 25-ish years, Bari’s desire to share her love of craft and materials met its magical moment: a spacious, light-filled shop/studio/salon became available in a wonderful block of shops. Finally, Bari was able to offer workshops in a beautiful space conducive to creative camaraderie! She was also able to merchandise a revolving array of colored pencils & other drawing supplies, washi tape, notebooks, sketchbooks, notecards…and a growing inventory of her handmade books and boxes.
