Design, Carve & Print with Erin Dollar

In this immersive workshop, we explore the elements of design for block printing. Erin leads through the process of creating an illustration or motif, transferring drawings onto a printer’s block and then safe carving techniques. Finally, we learn the essentials of block printing onto paper and textiles and the variations in technique for achieving crisp results which can be used for various projects or to personalize many items.
Supplies You Will Need
- Soft Graphite Pencil
- Paper
- Eraser
- Ruler
- Masking tape
- Large plate or plastic tray
- Carving tools
- Fabric & paper ink
- Brayer
- Printing block (The Crafter’s Box or Blick)
- Things to print on like printmaking paper, blank cards or textiles like tea towels
About the Artist
Erin is an artist and textile designer who creates beautiful patterned home goods from her San Diego studio. Since 2012 Erin has been designing modern home goods for her company, Cotton & Flax, which unites fine art aesthetics with high-quality, natural materials. She first joined us in April of 2016 to teach an in-depth workshop on block printing and hand carving to create a custom table runner. We’re so excited to welcome her back to teach more printmaking techniques!
