WOVEN BUCKET BAG
Basket weaving, also known as basketry or basket making, involves traditional weaving techniques to craft a three-dimensional design. In this workshop, participants will learn to construct a round base and transition seamlessly from the base to the walls of the basket. The final steps will include finishing the top, adding a handle, and creating a lid. These new skills will be combined to produce a versatile and functional bucket bag suitable for everyday use.
HOW A WOVEN BUCKET BAG TRANSFORMED INTO THE BIRKIN BAG
The famous Birkin Bags began when one woman became obsessed with her basket-woven bucket bag. Due to Jane Birkin's signature style, handwoven accessories became popular in the 1970s. She wore a bucket bag everywhere, from eating out to formal events to the nightclub. Her bucket bag inspired a love for practical handwoven accessories. A short while later, she was seated beside the Hermes chief executive during a flight. She told him about her favorite basket bag, which was functional and beautiful, saying that it could hold everything. Still, her contents spilled out when she put them in the overhead compartment. He created a leather design for her, now known and sold as the Birkin Bag.
Basket weaving has many practical uses. The bucket bag can hold items on the go when you are out and about. You can also use the same design as a storage vessel, such as toys or craft supplies. Different accessories can also be added to the bag, such as purse feet, a liner, and a strap. For further customization at home, regular wood stain may be used to turn the finished basket into any desired color. The rattan is stripped and light but easily stains to give it a richer depth of color.
