KRISTEN PUMPHREY
HAND POURED CANDLE & SCENT BLENDING
Kristen Pumphrey, founder and creative director of P.F. Candle Co., joins us to lead a workshop on hand poured soy candles and fragrance blending. P.F. Candle Co. is an iconic Southern California, family-owned candle brand known for its soothing, rich fragrance blends.
Tips for this Project:
- Try your best to center the cotton wick as carefully as possible. The melting pool that's created as you burn your finished candle is based off of where the wick sits in your candle.
- For a nice even burn, keep that wick right on center (secured with the clothespin) as the wax hardens.
A note on working with fragrance and essential oils:
- Use caution when working with oils and always keep out of reach of children and pets. We recommend waiting to work on this project for when small children are not around to accidentally ingest or rub onto their skin/eyes. Oils can be eye and skin irritants.
- Store in a cool, dry location and away from heat, sparks and open flame.
- First Aid: As an eye irritant, flush immediately with large amounts of water. If wearing contact lenses, remove first. If swallowed, drink a glassful of water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately. Contact poison control or call 911 to seek additional medical assistance.
More About Our Artist: Kristen Pumphrey
P.F. Candle Co. is a home fragrance company based in Los Angeles, California. It officially found its origin in 2008 (though Kristen began experimenting with candles at age 12) and has expanded rapidly since the launch of their signature apothecary-style amber jar candle line in 2012. After graduating from NYU with a BFA in Acting and Creative Writing, Kristen pivoted to a career in the publishing industry, where she worked at a craft magazine writing about DIY projects and the burgeoning maker community. When the magazine folded, she took it as an opportunity to relocate and try her hand at making things for a living. P.F.’s team of 22 now makes, ships, and sells all under one roof in East Los Angeles.
