NATALIE GILL OF NATIVE POPPY
DRIED WREATHS: ELEGANT + WILD
Welcome to our premium workshop exploring the elegant + wild art of floral design. We have teamed up with talented floral designer and artist Natalie Gill of Native Poppy to teach us how to create dried floral wreaths for every time of year. Whether you prefer asymmetrical or full and classic design, Natalie will teach numerous variations for your creative exploration. We will release new materials throughout the year so you can make beautiful wreaths, perfect for every season.
In this premium workshop, you will learn how to create two beautiful wreaths from scratch: an asymmetrical grapevine and a full circle wire frame wreath.
We’ll learn about the design principles of wreath making: layering and depth, volume and height, and the secret to making loose and natural looking wreaths. Natalie walks us through layering textures and elements, with tips for using materials sourced in your part of the world.
Native Poppy is all about seeing floral design as a natural garden and modeling your creations off of what you would find in nature: florals and botanicals don’t naturally grow evenly or perfectly line up.
Embrace the freedom to be messy and imprecise, setting perfection aside. Allow your designs and elements to be a little untamed with uneven lengths for a wild and elegant creation. Natalie likes to think of wreath design like modeling clay — you can shape your elements and ingredients into whatever you want.
With just a few techniques and skills covered in our digital tutorial, you’ll be able to create one-of-a-kind, uniquely designed wreaths to fit any style. And the best part? This art form is so versatile and flexible, Natalie gives us the confidence and skills to get wild and create beautifully elegant wreaths with any combination of purchased, handcrafted or found elements.
PLEASE NOTE: If you purchased the “Pampas & Thistle”, “Strawflower & Peach Ruscus” and/or “Yarrow & Plumosa Fern” Wreath Making Workshops earlier this year, you already have access to the complete video workshop. You can purchase our newest seasonal botanicals here.
Purchasing this workshop today starts makers off with our Copper Beech & Bunny Tail Wreath Bundle Materials Kit (see images below) featuring elements to create a full grapevine wreath with seasonally inspired botanicals, including a lovely shade of dried copper beech, wild dried pampas grass and soft bunny tails to transition from summer to fall.
More About Our Artist: Natalie Gill
Natalie founded Native Poppy in 2015 as an opportunity to pursue creative work: “I knew I wanted to make something beautiful, work with my hands, and not sit under fluorescent lighting 40 hours a week,” she smiles. Natalie shares that this business lets her commit to creating joy in the world by making art with friends - in 2018 her business partner (and employee since day 1) Meg Blancato officially joined as a co-owner. The duo now run two flower design studios in San Diego, California and have grown from Natalie’s apartment floor into a thriving business.
Originally a San Francisco native, Natalie now calls Southern California home where she lives with her fiancé and two cats. Natalie has a deep passion for creating aesthetically exceptional environments, and when she’s not up to her elbows in flowers you can find her tending to her own home garden or cooking a delicious meal.
We’re so excited to have you join us, Natalie.
