Build the punch needle art project of your dreams by customizing your tools and materials from frame size to yarn colors. Follow the steps below to choose each element that you’ll need for your punch needle art piece.

  • Step 1: Choose your preferred colors of our Custom Lana Wool Blend Yarn. Note: feel free to instead purchase your own colorway from our full selection here.
  • Step 2: Choose a stretcher bar set OR gripper frame. Stretcher bars create a wooden frame that connects together with a wooden mallet, Arounna shares in her workshop how to stretch and staple gun a frame. Gripper bars are for the active punch needler as the process to change out your monks cloth (and to create a tight stretch) takes minutes.
  • Step 3: Choose the quantity of monks cloth needed for the number of projects you’re ready for! We sell our monks cloth by the yard.
  • Step 4: Add on a set of digital patterns designed by Arounna (optional).

The Crafter’s Box has worked closely with an Italian mill to bring you our favorite single-ply wool blend yarn in a range of beautifully heathered colors. We've featured this yarn in our Punch Needle Art Workshop (it's perfect for a size 10 tool) and our Wrapped Fiber Rainbow Workshop. This gorgeous yarn is ideal for crocheting, knitting, and weaving.

This yarn was designed and produced entirely in Italy through a family mill and features an incredibly soft blend of Merino wool, acrylic (for strength) and alpaca. It is both easy to care for and absolutely wonderful to work with. What makes this yarn unique and special? It’s a toss-up between the incredibly rich & variated colors (many of which offer a heathering) and its single-ply nature (woot, woot!). We’re ensuring it supports local and is priced affordably, all of which give it an edge on any other yarn we’ve come across.

Stretcher Bars for Punch Needle Art | The Crafter's Box

Stretcher Bars for Punch Needle

This kit sends along stretcher bars in your choice of size to keep the punch needle making going. Choose between 9 x 9, 12 x 12, 16 x 16, and 14 x 22 inch stretcher bars to craft your piece.

Following the monks cloth stretching technique taught by Arounna in her Full Punch Needle Art workshop, continue exploring in the size of your choice.

Included in this listing:

  • a sets of stretcher bars ready to be assembled (will require a hammer or rubber mallet to connect)

Monks Cloth by the Yard

Ready to keep exploring punch needle art? Create as you please and on your own terms: hang a punch needle project like a tapestry or turn your monks cloth into a punch needle pillow.   • Description: loose-weave, natural color cotton monks cloth in 14-count with traditional 2" white woven thread markings. 55" wide.

Punch Needle Gripper Frames | Punch Needle Workshop | The Crafter's Box

Custom Gripper Frames

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A 7-10 DAY DELAY IN SHIPPING THIS ITEM FROM THE TIME YOUR ORDER IS PLACED.

Custom punch needle gripper frames assist in holding monk's cloth as you craft your punch needle project. Experienced punchers know that a REALLY tight frame is the key to smoothly gliding over a punch needle piece in-progress (so tight you should be able to bounce a quarter on it). These reusable frames make it easy to switch out new projects - no need to stretch and staple gun your work any longer.

With these new gripper frames, assure your cloth is held tightly - as tight as a drum - for a clean and secure design, and increase the accuracy of your details as you craft in this technique. Benefits include reducing hand and wrist strain.

  • Choose from four sizes for your custom pine frame available below: 20x30", 18x18", 14x14" and 10x10"

Textile Maple Hanger Frame

We've redesigned our custom maple hanger frames with fabric and textiles in mind. With predrilled holes and hardware to assemble them, these maple frames can be used to hang even the heaviest of fiber projects. We've asked a talented local San Diegan woodworking team to build the poster-style frames we imagined up for projects just like these and can't wait to share them with you.

The materials included in this add-on:

  • a maple frame kit including a top and bottom wood clamping set in your choice of size (large 23.5" or small 11")
  • suede cording to hang your artwork along your wall
